Free Food Friday

Image
Today is Free Fresh Food Friday! In the cooler: potatoes, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and kale from the Hmong American Farmers Association; patty pan squash and green beans from my garden. Next week will be the last Free Fresh Food Friday for the season. Thanks to everyone who has taken food, left notes, stopped to say hi, and talked about the project with their neighbors.

New Rad Zine

A new zine has been added to the Rad Mini Library! "Planning for a Disaster" is an episode from a Truthout podcast "Movement Memos" by Kelly Hayes. She led a mind mapping exercise for personal safety and helping in broader ways.

Rad Zines

The Rad Mini Library is trying a new offering - zines! This summer, the library has been stocked with zines on taking care during COVID, and over the past year there have been various zines on caring for unhoused neighbors. Now zines on rad books are being added. These are excerpts from books that can be checked out from the library or purchased locally, and are books that were shared through the Rad Mini Library.

It's Free Fresh Food Friday! In the cooler today: so many green beans from my garden, and edamame, mustard greens, bell peppers, and cucumbers from the Hmong American Farmers Association. It was fun to meet a neighbor this morning at the cooler! They learned about the project from Longfellow Whatever. I love the connections!

Added Rad Book

This rad book was recently added to the Rad Mini Library - "Something Happened in Our Town: A Child's Story about Racial Injustice" is a children's book by Marianne Celano, Marietta Collins and Ann Hazzard; illustrated by Jennifer Zivoin. Interestingly, our local Children's Theater Company produced a play based on the book, while a Minnesotan petitioned to ban the book. It was the 6th most banned and challenged book in 2018.  We like banned books at the Rad Mini Library 😉

Local Feature!

https://www.longfellowwhatever.com/farm-to-sidewalk-35th-aves-little-free-produce-library Longfellow Whatever 🥬 Farm to sidewalk: 35th Ave's little free produce library Becky Franklin's family can only eat so much asparagus and bok choy. So, every Friday morning after picking up her CSA produce haul, she plucks out what she thinks they'll use and leaves the rest in a cooler outside her house on the 3400 block of 35th Avenue, augmented by the harvests of her own garden. By the time she brings it in for the evening, it's usually almost all spoken for.
